September, 2012
Greeting Sisters and Brothers,
I hope everybody had a happy, safe, and enjoyable summer. The next regular meeting of the Electrical Welfare Club will be held on Tuesday September 11th, 2012 in the Balcony Lounge of the JIB Auditorium at 5PM. Please note this date change as it is the 2nd Tuesday. Food and beverage will be served at that time. This month our guest speaker will be Business Representative John DiTusa. Our Business Representative Elliot Hecht will be on hand to provide us with details of the new developments within our industry. Questions will be welcomed.
There were a lot of activities over the summer. As a recap, on June 18th, 2012 we had our annual night out at CitiField. We filled 70 seats in the Pepsi Porch as Ike Davis hit a grand slam home run to lead the NY Mets to a 5-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Thank you to Brother Mat Cohen for organizing a great evening.
On June 24th, we held our annual Fishing Trip. We had perfect weather and everyone had a good time. Thanks again to Brother Lloyd Farbman and those that assisted him for another great trip.
On July 21st, we held our 2nd rafting trip, in Jim Thorpe, Pa. We had eight rafts (twice as many as last year) for a total of 45 people. We all had an amazing time. This year’s water blasters added some new fun to the trip. Once again thanks to Brother Michael Fichtenbaum for organizing this spectacular trip. We are all looking forward to next year’s adventure down the Lehigh River.
On July 28th we held our 35th Annual Muscular Dystrophy Association picnic. I’d like to thank all the members and their families that came out that day to set the stage for what turned out to be a beautiful day and a wonderful event. Thank you to vice president Steven Sadofsky as well as co-chairmen, Paul Portnoy & James Marer for organizing and making this event run smoothly.
Labor Day parade is Saturday, September 8th, 2012. Local 3 is assembling on west 45th street between 5th and 6th avenue. Assembly time is 9:15am and we are scheduled to march at 10:45am. There will be no club banners in the parade. We will all march as one with the Local 3 IBEW banner. It is extremely important that you make every effort to march in the parade. Remember this is a big election year and we need to show our strength.
Union dues are due in September. The cost for this period will be $214. Mail them in early so as not to overburden our dues department at the last minute.
