President’s Letter May 2013

Greeting Sisters and Brothers,

This month we have much to celebrate. Unemployment is down, the ‘A’ division will be back to vacations in July 2013 (allowed furlough must be completed), but most of all contract negotiations have ended. Thanks to the leadership of our Business Manager, Christopher Erikson the negotiating team chaired by Dwight Anderson presented a wonderful contract that was ratified unanimously by the membership at the meeting held on Thursday, May 9^th, 2013.

The next regular meeting of the Electrical Welfare Club will be held on Tuesday,
May 21^st, 2013 in the Balcony Lounge of the JIB at 5 PM. Food and beverages will be served. At this meeting our Club Coordinator Elliot Hecht will provide details of new developments within the industry. Questions are always welcomed.

I’d like to thank all of last month’s wonderful guest speakers. We had former Assemblyman Barry Gordenchik, who will be running for the position of Queens Borough President. He certainly has the support of the EWC and we wish him luck with his campaign.  I’d also like to thank Nicholas Agho from Milwaukee Tools for taking time out of his busy schedule to address our members about the new tools they have developed for our industry as well as the partnership that they have developed with the I.B.E.W.’s J.A.T.C.

This meeting is your last opportunity to apply for one of the 2013 EWC scholarships. The Louis Stein Memorial Scholarship is for a four year school while the Irving Reicher Memorial Scholarship is for those that plan to attend a two year school. You can contact Scholarship Chairman, Bro. Marc Deutscher if you need an application.

The deadline to apply is May 21^st,2013.

1)   Electchester Street Fair June 2nd 11am-7pm

2)   ***EWC JUNE MEETING DATE CHANGE*** the June meeting
will be held Tuesday June 25^th, 2013 Due to a scheduling conflict.

3)   EWC Annual Fishing Trip Sunday, June 30^th, 2013 (See enclosed flyer)

4)  EWC 3^rd Annual Rafting Trip July 20^th, 2013 (See enclosed flyer)

5) Annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Picnic at Belmont Park, Late July or Early August 2013 (date T.B.D. soon) We will need everyone to pitch in.

6)   EWC Weekend at the Long Island Educational Center in Cutchogue, LI August 23^rd-25^th, 2013 sign up to attend at our upcoming meeting.
